A key figure in the Muslim Brotherhood, Mahmoud Ezzat, has admitted to conceiving the idea of the Rabaa al-Adawiya sit-in in 2013, a pivotal event in Egyptian political history. The revelation came during the 27th episode of the television series “Ra’s al-Af’a” (Head of the Snake).

According to Ezzat’s confession, the sit-in was intended as a means for the group’s leadership to maintain organizational cohesion following the removal of former President Mohamed Morsi. Leaders believed a sustained presence in one location would project an image of continued strength and mobilizing capacity.

Ezzat also confessed to withdrawing from the sit-in without informing many leaders, claiming he was attempting to protect the organization. This action has raised questions during investigations regarding the fate of the thousands of members who remained at the site.
