Rebeka Masarova’s run at the WTA Austin tournament came to an end against Taylor Townsend on Wednesday, February 26, 2026.

The Basel native (WTA 120) fell to Townsend, ranked 119th in the world, in a match lasting over two hours and twenty minutes. Townsend secured the victory with a 5-7, 6-2, 6-2 scoreline against the former junior Roland Garros finalist – who previously lost to Belinda Bencic in the championship match.

Masarova, also a junior Grand Slam champion at the French Open, started strong in Austin, taking the first set thanks in part to a powerful serve. However, her momentum faded as her serve lost its effectiveness, allowing Townsend to capitalize and seize control of the following two sets.

With the win, Townsend advances to the tournament’s semi-final round. Masarova’s impressive Texas campaign included four victories – two in qualifying and two in the main draw – showcasing her growing potential on the WTA tour.
