Recent months have shown interesting data regarding the professional activity of people of post-productive age. According to the Economic Activity of the Population Survey (BAEL) conducted by the Central Statistical Office, in the last quarter of 2025, people of retirement age already accounted for almost 5 percent of all employees in Poland. This represents an increase of 0.6 percentage points compared to the end of 2021.

“Rz” emphasizes that the employment rate of people of retirement age increased during this period from 8.5 percent to a record 10 percent, with their number increasing by almost 100,000 to 852,000.

Data from the Social Insurance Institution shows that in November 2025, more than 894,000 people with established pension rights were employed in Poland. This is more than 20,000 more than in December 2023.

This high level of professional activity among retirees is unprecedented and clearly shows that more and more seniors are choosing to continue working despite reaching retirement age. The trend suggests a potential shift in traditional retirement patterns, driven by economic factors and individual preferences.

What motivates people over 60 to remain in the labor market? According to a survey by SW Research for the Job Impulse employment agency, as many as 71 percent of the 600 people aged 60 or over surveyed declared a willingness to continue or take up paid employment.

The most frequently cited reason is the desire to obtain additional income – 63 percent of respondents gave this answer. However, financial issues are not the only vital factor. Some seniors emphasize that work allows them to maintain professional activity, gives them a sense of belonging to a team and enables regular social contacts. For many people, remaining professionally active is as well a way to maintain excellent mental and physical condition.
