Renault Bridger: New Compact SUV for Emerging Markets Revealed

Renault has unveiled the Bridger, a new compact SUV concept designed to spearhead the automaker’s ambitious global expansion plans. The vehicle, revealed on March 10, 2026, signals the first major step in the company’s new FutuREady strategy, focusing on electrification and growth in emerging markets.

Just days after hinting at a sub-4-meter SUV, Renault officially presented the Bridger. Unlike many concept vehicles that remain as design studies, Renault intends for the Bridger to be a key component of its future product lineup.

Shorter than both the Dacia Duster and the Renault Captur, the Bridger is built on Renault’s new modular platform. Despite its compact dimensions, the vehicle offers a surprisingly spacious interior, boasting 400 liters of cargo space and 200mm of rear legroom. Renault asserts that the Bridger provides more rear passenger space than the Renault 4, which offers only 164mm of legroom despite its 4.1-meter length.

Production of the Bridger is slated to begin before the end of 2027, primarily targeting developing nations. The vehicle will be manufactured in India and offered with gasoline, hybrid, and all-electric powertrains. Initial launch will occur in India, followed by exports to regions including Africa and the Middle East.

According to sources cited by Autocar, the entry-level model will be powered by a 1.2-liter gasoline engine. Electric versions will be available with either 35 kWh or 55 kWh battery packs. The hybrid variant is expected to utilize the same 158 horsepower powertrain currently found in the Renault-branded Duster.

Beyond expansion into new markets, Renault also plans to strengthen its position in Europe. The company aims to introduce 12 new models by 2030, and to achieve 100% electric vehicle sales in Europe by that time, with a goal of reaching 2 million global annual sales.
