The long-awaited Resident Evil: Code Veronica remake is shaping up to be one of Capcom’s most ambitious projects yet, with the development team now confirmed to include key personnel from the critically acclaimed remakes of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4. According to recent reports, Kazunori Kadoi and Yasuhiro Anpo will co-direct the remake.

The news, initially shared by Capcom insider Dusk Golem, indicates that Kadoi and Anpo – the duo behind the successful 2019 and 2023 remakes – are leading the charge on Code Veronica. This pairing signals Capcom’s commitment to delivering a high-quality reimagining of the classic survival horror title. The remake’s development is particularly noteworthy as the original Resident Evil: Code Veronica was a pivotal entry in the franchise, introducing recent characters and expanding the series’ lore.

However, the remake isn’t simply a faithful recreation of the 2000 original. Dusk Golem too revealed that Resident Evil: Code Veronica is undergoing the most significant changes of any remake in the series to date. “What I’ve heard is that Resident Evil Code Veronica is generally just a bit expanded, nothing is cut, some things are heavily remixed,” the insider stated. “It’s the remake with the most stuff changed or happening differently than you might remember, but all enemies, locations, major events are there… and a lot is even expanded.”

The expanded scope also extends to the game’s protagonists, Claire Redfield and Chris Redfield. Capcom recognizes this will be the first time players encounter a younger version of Chris Redfield within the remake engine and is ensuring both characters receive significant attention. “Chris also falls into this, Capcom realizes this is the first time Chris appears in RE engine Remakes as his younger self, some people will see it, so Chris isn’t a modest part of the game and expanded, it’s just that Claire is also.”

Currently, Capcom’s focus remains on supporting the recently released Resident Evil Requiem, with downloadable content planned for the title. An official announcement regarding Resident Evil: Code Veronica is likely to follow, potentially at major gaming events such as Gamescom, the Tokyo Game Show, or The Game Awards.
