Capcom’s highly anticipated remake of Resident Evil: Code Veronica is reportedly being led by the same team responsible for the critically acclaimed remakes of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4. According to recent reports from industry insider Dusk Golem, Kazunori Kadoi and Yasuhiro Anpo are directing the project.
This remake is shaping up to be the most significantly altered version of the game compared to the original release, though developers are emphasizing that no content will be cut. Instead, the game is undergoing substantial adaptation and expansion. “What I’ve heard is that Resident Evil Code Veronica is generally a bit expanded, nothing is cut, some things are heavily remixed,” Dusk Golem wrote in a post. “It’s the Remake with the most changes or things happening differently than you remember, but all enemies, locations, major events are there… and a lot of things are even expanded.”
The development team is also prioritizing the role of Chris Redfield, recognizing this will be his first appearance in the RE Engine as a younger version of the character. Claire Redfield’s role is also being expanded. Capcom is aware of the demand to see Chris featured prominently, and is responding accordingly.
Currently, Capcom’s focus is on Resident Evil Requiem, with downloadable content planned for release. A reveal of further details regarding the Code Veronica remake is not expected until later this year, potentially at events like Gamescom, the Tokyo Game Show, or The Game Awards.
