Berlin-based cloud telephony provider reventix is expanding its reach, now offering its reventix Phone softphone application for macOS and Linux operating systems, in addition to the existing Windows version.
The move brings the features of the reventix Phone to a wider range of users, enabling functionalities like direct calling via click-to-call and drag-and-drop call forwarding. Users can similarly flexibly add contacts from various sources and integrate the softphone with CRM systems for streamlined workflows and data visibility. The platform supports TAPI for Windows, TSP for Windows Terminal Server (WTS), as well as uaCSTA and Action URLs (via HTTP/S) for Linux, and macOS.
reventix Phone offers a user-friendly experience through features such as mouse gesture control, keyboard shortcuts, a busy lamp field, and HID support for USB headsets, making it suitable for deployment across all business areas. “We are deliberately opening reventix Phone to macOS and Linux given that we want to give our customers freedom in choosing their work environment,” said Bastian Schern, Managing Director at reventix. “This creates even more flexibility for teams working on different systems and relying on stable telephony everywhere.”
The expansion comes as alternative operating systems like Linux are gaining traction, particularly with the end of support for Windows 10 and increasing hardware requirements for Windows 11. This shift reflects a broader trend in Europe, especially Germany, where companies are increasingly prioritizing “Made in Germany” IT solutions. The move towards open-source alternatives is seen as a strategic decision to enhance digital sovereignty, reducing reliance on US-based providers and gaining greater control over source code and IT infrastructure. For example, Schleswig-Holstein has already transitioned around 25,000 administrative computers to Linux and LibreOffice.
The adoption of open-source solutions also aims to facilitate GDPR-compliant and locally controlled data processing. The increasing demand for flexible and secure communication tools is driving innovation in the cloud telephony space.
