A continuing education session hosted by the College of Medicine at Al-Mustansiriya University, in collaboration with the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, featured a scientific lecture on Rh incompatibility between parents. The lecture was delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. Zainab Abdul-Amir Jaafar and Assistant Professor Dr. Amana Fadhil Reda, both instructors in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the College of Medicine/Al-Mustansiriya University and was attended by a select group of professors, instructors, and graduate students at the department’s conference hall in the Yarmouk Complex.

The presentation highlighted that a mother’s blood type can sometimes differ from the father’s, leading to Rh incompatibility between the mother and the developing fetus. This incompatibility can negatively impact the fetus’s health if not properly addressed, potentially causing hemolytic disease of the newborn, also known as jaundice or anemia.

Preventative measures are available, including administering a medication called Rho(D)-immunoglobulin to the mother. Consistent prenatal medical follow-up and preventative injections are crucial for avoiding complications. This underscores the importance of regular prenatal care for a healthy pregnancy.
