Rijk Hofman, the brother of prominent Dutch TV personality Tim Hofman and the host of the Temptation Island reboot, has publicly criticized RTL boss Peter van der Vorst, calling his statements “just nonsense.”
The dispute centers on the revival of Temptation Island, a reality TV show that previously aired on RTL before being canceled following reports of unethical practices behind the scenes. Van der Vorst had previously stated, “You can push the boundaries, but I no longer think Temptation Island is relevant. I find it a demanding genre.”
‘Everything Ethical!’
The show has since been picked up by Prime Video with Rijk Hofman as host. Hofman stated he repeatedly questioned the production team about the ethical implications of the show, receiving assurances that “everything had been done” to ensure responsible production. He shared this information with RTL Boulevard.
Hofman expressed enthusiasm for the role, noting his professional background centers around watching reality television. “I really enjoyed it, especially due to the fact that my entire work is based on watching reality shows and now I was actually able to be involved. I was able to take a seem behind the scenes. In fact, I was the host! But I was as well able to peek behind the scenes a bit, so I just enjoyed it.”
‘Just Nonsense!’
Van der Vorst’s claim that Temptation Island is outdated drew a sharp response from Hofman. “Yes, that’s just nonsense! And then they go and make House of Villains!” he exclaimed, pointing out RTL’s continued production of boundary-pushing reality programming. This highlights the complex dynamics of content regulation and ethical considerations within the reality TV landscape.
Hofman added that he’s glad the show moved away from RTL. “I’m very happy that it stopped then and I’m very happy that it has now been taken over by a party that has done it ethically, because otherwise I would never have been the host.”
Psychological Support
According to Hofman, Prime Video took a comprehensive approach to the show’s production. “In fact, there was also a psychologist involved. They spoke with everyone, the entire cast. I even used the psychologist myself.”
“It’s also mentally quite heavy, a reality show, you’re completely in your own bubble. I didn’t expect that the host would be in the same bubble either.”
