Rockstar Games Targeted in New Ransomware Attack via Third-Party Cloud Breach
Rockstar Games has confirmed it is the target of a new data breach and extortion attempt carried out by the hacker group known as ShinyHunters. The attackers are currently demanding a ransom payment to prevent the release of stolen company data.

The security incident, which occurred on April 11, 2026, reportedly stemmed from a vulnerability in a third-party service. According to reports, the hackers gained access to Rockstar’s internal systems through Anodot, a cloud cost monitoring and analytics software tool. This breach allegedly allowed ShinyHunters to compromise Snowflake instances—a cloud-hosting platform used by several high-profile corporations—to seize sensitive materials.
Rockstar Games has sought to downplay the severity of the event. In a statement, the company noted, “We can confirm that a limited amount of non-material company information was accessed in connection with a third-party data breach.” The developer further emphasized that “This incident has no impact on our organisation or our players.”
Despite these assurances, the threat actors have issued a strict ultimatum. In a ransom note, ShinyHunters stated: “Rockstar Games, your Snowflake instances were compromised thanks to Anodot.com. Pay or leak. This represents a final warning to reach out by 14th April 2026 before we leak, along with several annoying (digital) problems that’ll come your way. Craft the right decision, don’t be the next headline.”
Although the specific nature of the stolen files remains unverified, early reports suggest the data could include everything from financial records to marketing timelines and upcoming trailers for the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI. The move highlights the critical vulnerabilities inherent in the modern SaaS (Software-as-a-Service) supply chain, where a single breach in a monitoring tool can expose a primary target’s cloud infrastructure.
This is not the first time the studio has faced such a crisis. In 2022, a significant breach resulted in the leak of numerous images and videos from GTA VI, which eventually led to the arrest of a 17-year-aged. That individual was subsequently sentenced to a hospital prison, with release contingent upon a medical determination that they no longer pose a threat.
The current situation remains developing as the April 14, 2026, deadline approaches. For more on the incident, observe the Rockstar extortion reports Gamer.no.
