Romanian Driver Caught With Radar Detector, Tinted Windows & False Police Badge

A routine traffic stop took a bizarre turn when officers discovered a driver was receiving real-time instructions from his father on how to conceal vehicle documents. The incident began when officers pulled over the vehicle and noticed the windows were heavily tinted.

When asked for the vehicle’s registration, the driver claimed he didn’t have it on hand, even as he was engaged in a speakerphone conversation with his father. Officers reportedly overheard the father advising him to hide the document in the glove compartment. A subsequent search confirmed the registration was exactly where the father had directed, according to reports.

The traffic stop didn’t end there. A radar detector was found on the car’s dashboard, and a badge with the inscription “Police” was affixed to the vehicle’s window with two suction cups. These infractions resulted in additional fines totaling 7,200 lei – approximately $1,550 USD – for the radar detector, window tint, and other violations.

The situation escalated further with the arrival of the driver’s father. He accused the officers of stealing 5,000 euros – roughly $5,400 USD – from the glove compartment during the search. However, the officers stated that the entire procedure was recorded using body cameras, proving no money was taken.

The father initially refused to cooperate, stating only that the car belonged to him and that he routinely kept money in his vehicles. Police offered him the opportunity to verify the situation on the spot, but the tense discussions yielded no further clarification. The incident remains under investigation, and the fines issued to the driver stand.
