Almería has announced that Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo has acquired 25 percent of the shares in the Spanish second-division club, marking a recent investment venture for the football icon outside of the pitch.

The club revealed in a statement that the deal was completed through Ronaldo’s investment company, without disclosing the financial details. The agreement is part of a plan for international expansion and strengthening strategic partnerships.

Almería was recently acquired by SMC Group in 2025 after being relegated from the Spanish La Liga in the 2023-2024 season. Ronaldo previously spent nine seasons with Real Madrid, becoming the club’s all-time leading scorer, and currently plays for Al-Nassr.

“Almería is a solid Spanish institution with clear growth potential,” Ronaldo said in a statement published by Almería, expressing his eagerness to work with the management and support the project’s sporting phase.

Currently, Almería sits in third place in the second division standings. This investment signals Ronaldo’s continued interest in the sport beyond his playing career and could provide a significant boost to Almería’s ambitions.

In a separate match on Sunday, March 1, 2026, Al-Nassr managed to overturn a deficit against Al-Fayhaa, maintaining their hopes of winning the Saudi Professional League title. However, the match was also marked by a moment of concern for Ronaldo, as he missed a penalty and appeared worried about a potential injury.

According to Goal.com, despite the missed penalty, Al-Nassr secured the victory, keeping them in contention for the league championship.

Jesus, the Al-Nassr coach, revealed the extent of Ronaldo’s injury, stating that the player will be out for an unspecified period, according to CNN Arabic.

Prior to the match, coach Donis emphasized the importance of Al-Nassr regaining the top spot against Al-Fayhaa, as reported by Alkhaleej.

The win keeps Al-Nassr firmly in the title race, and the team will be hoping for a swift recovery for their star player.
