Royal conversations are under scrutiny as lip-reading videos of British royals and celebrities gain traction online, particularly on TikTok, causing concern among those involved.
Representatives and advisors for members of the royal family are now cautioning against speaking freely in public, according to a recent report.
One video analyzed by a lip-reading expert featured Prince William and Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, as part of Channel 5’s documentary series “Lip-Reading the Royals.”
The footage reportedly shows Mountbatten-Windsor attempting to apologize to his nephew, Prince William, who appears to ignore him.
“I’ve learned from what I’ve done, but before I forget, and if you can, I would like to ask if you can forgive me?” the lip-reading translation reveals.
A royal source told the publication that, “as with many public figures, members of the royal family are aware of the unfortunate and growing trend of using lip readers, with varying degrees of accuracy, to spy on conversations that anyone would have the right to consider private.”
