Manchester City and Real Madrid are set for a rematch featuring a highly anticipated duel between Antonio Rudiger and Erling Haaland. Rudiger is looking forward to the challenge.

The second leg of the Champions League Round of 16 matchup between Man City and Madrid will be played at Etihad Stadium on Wednesday, March 18, 2026. Real Madrid enters the contest with a 3-0 advantage from the first leg, putting significant pressure on Manchester City to perform.

Haaland was largely neutralized in the first leg at Santiago Bernabeu, managing only 10 touches of the ball before being substituted off in the 82nd minute. The Norwegian striker will be eager to make a greater impact in the return leg.

Statistics also reveal Haaland has only scored one goal in six previous encounters against Rudiger. Although not overly concerned with the numbers, Rudiger is anticipating the battle with the prolific striker.

“I don’t really think about these statistics, I don’t really care about them, they are just numbers,” Rudiger said, as reported by Football Espana.

“He won the duel with me in the group stage match. Players like Haaland are difficult, and it’s enjoyable to face the best. I really enjoy the physical duels. Huijsen also played very well, I wasn’t alone in the defense. I’m really looking forward to this match.”

“I’ve faced him many times… he’s a world-class player and still young. He is very strong and I like duels like this throughout my career.”

“In my first season here, no center-back could provide him a good game and beat him… and I was the first. He’s a good guy and a better football player. There’s nothing more to say,” he added.
