A team of students from the University of Indonesia (UI) has earned global recognition for their AI-powered assistive technology. RunSight, a smart eyewear solution developed by Labmino, was selected as a Top 10 Global Ambassador in the Samsung Solve for Tomorrow (SFT) program. This achievement underscores Indonesia’s growing role in developing innovative solutions with real-world impact.

RunSight is designed to enhance the running experience for visually impaired athletes, providing real-time audio guidance to navigate their surroundings safely. The technology exemplifies a growing trend of using artificial intelligence to promote inclusivity and accessibility in sports and beyond.

What is RunSight?

RunSight utilizes visual sensors and AI algorithms to analyze the environment around the user. This data is then converted into real-time audio instructions, alerting runners to obstacles and helping them stay on course. The system’s ability to process information and deliver timely guidance makes it a potentially transformative tool for visually impaired athletes.

“Following Samsung Solve for Tomorrow was a journey that truly changed the way we see ourselves and our potential,” said Anthony Edbert Feriyanto of Team Labmino. “We are very happy and proud to bring the name of Indonesia as a Global Ambassador. For us, This represents not just about winning a program, but about proving that ideas born from concern can grow into real solutions that have an impact. We hope this achievement can inspire more young people in Indonesia to dare to dream bigger, innovate with empathy and believe that their function can mean something to many people.”

How RunSight Supports Visually Impaired Runners

The system operates by capturing images of the path ahead, instantly processing the visual data with AI to identify potential hazards or changes in terrain. Within seconds, the system delivers audio cues to the user, allowing them to adjust their stride accordingly. This seamless integration of hardware and artificial intelligence is central to RunSight’s functionality.

RunSight’s Relevance in Indonesia’s AI Landscape

Indonesia’s digital transformation is increasingly focused on the implementation of AI across various sectors. Although much of the innovation has centered on business efficiency and industrial productivity, RunSight takes a different approach: AI for social inclusion. This demonstrates the ability of Indonesia’s young innovators to not only develop advanced technology but also to understand the social impact of their solutions.

According to Prof. Dr. Fauzan, M.Pd., Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia, “We are proud to see Team Labmino able to stand side by side and contribute in the global forum. Innovation based on science and technology like this shows the great potential of the younger generation of Indonesia in answering real challenges towards Golden Indonesia 2045. We also appreciate the initiative of Samsung through Solve for Tomorrow which is in line with the government’s efforts to strengthen education and the innovation ecosystem, by opening up space for the younger generation to develop technology-based solutions that have a social impact.”

Samsung Solve For Tomorrow and Global Recognition

Samsung Solve for Tomorrow

The Samsung Solve For Tomorrow program is a global initiative from Samsung Electronics Indonesia aimed at encouraging young people to develop STEM and technology-based solutions to real-world problems. Labmino’s RunSight was previously named the winner of Samsung Solve For Tomorrow Indonesia 2025. After undergoing rigorous regional and global selection, the team from the University of Indonesia was ultimately chosen as a Top 10 SFT Global Ambassador.

This recognition positions Indonesia among the nations with socially impactful AI innovations acknowledged on a global scale. Bagus Erlangga, Head of Corporate Marketing at Samsung Electronics Indonesia, stated, “We are very proud of Team Labmino being selected as an SFT Global Ambassador. This is certainly a very proud achievement for us and for Indonesia. Through this achievement, it further proves that meaningful AI is AI that empowers humans, and Team Labmino’s journey is an example of how empathy and technology can reach together to create impactful innovation at a global level.”

While there is no official announcement regarding commercialization yet, this global recognition opens up significant opportunities for further development, whether in the form of a technology startup, industry collaboration, or continued research. If commercialized, RunSight could potentially enter the wearable assistive AI device category, a rapidly growing segment of the global market.

The success of RunSight and Labmino as a TOP 10 SFT Global Ambassador demonstrates that AI innovation from Indonesia is capable of addressing universal needs with an inclusive and practical approach. In the midst of the global AI wave, this project from University of Indonesia students serves as an example that technology is not just about sophistication, but about how solutions make a real difference in people’s lives.
