Russia is reported to have lost over 1.3 million soldiers in the war.
Of those, 62 percent are said to have been killed and 38 percent wounded.
The figures come from a leaked Russian losses report, according to Finnish news outlet Verkkouutiet.
Ukraine’s military intelligence agency, GUR, says it has obtained classified Russian reports revealing the country’s losses in the war in Ukraine.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy wrote on Telegram about the “crucial documents regarding the Russian assessment of its losses on the battlefield.”
“The documents specifically clarified the ratio of killed to wounded Russian soldiers. Of the total losses, 62 percent have been killed and 38 percent injured,” Zelenskyy wrote.
The president stated that Russians themselves estimate their losses in the war to date at 1,315,000 soldiers who are either dead or seriously wounded.
“Regarding the data, we have reason to believe that the estimate of the loss level is too low,” Zelenskyy wrote.
“Russia’s Main Strategy”
Zelenskyy argued that Russia is attempting to secure “a complete lifting of sanctions against the energy sector.”
“In fact, Here’s currently Russia’s main strategy – to increase the risk of a protracted war in the Middle East and in the Gulf region in order to maximize the weakening of the world’s pressure on Russia for the war against Ukraine, to get out of sanctions and to obtain additional resources thanks to the price changes of oil and gas,” Zelenskyy wrote.
He stated that Ukraine is working on “countermeasures” regarding this.
“We must continue to limit Russian aggression potential, despite the geopolitical challenges in the world,” Zelenskyy wrote.
