A Russian drone approached the French aircraft carrier “Charles de Gaulle” while it was docked in the port of Malmö, Sweden, according to reports.
The incident, which occurred while the French naval flagship was in port in Malmö, Sweden, for a strategic exercise, involved a drone originating from a Russian vessel, Swedish broadcaster SVT reports.
According to SVT, the drone launched from the Russian vessel and moved toward the “Charles de Gaulle.” Swedish defense forces detected the drone and initiated electronic countermeasures, commonly known as jamming.
The drone subsequently disappeared from the area. It remains unclear whether it returned to the Russian vessel or crashed into the sea.
The “Charles de Gaulle” is the world’s largest nuclear-powered aircraft carrier outside of the United States, measuring over 260 meters in length. The ship typically carries around 2,000 sailors and military personnel, as well as approximately 30 fighter aircraft.
Swedish defense officials have not yet disclosed the specific countermeasures employed against the Russian drone, SVT added.
