Ryan Reynolds and Jason Momoa Push Back ‘Animal Friends’ to 2027

Ryan Reynolds and Jason Momoa Delay ‘Animal Friends’ to 2027

The upcoming live-action animated comedy, Animal Friends, starring Ryan Reynolds and Jason Momoa, has once again had its release date pushed back. The film, which as well features Vince Vaughn, Aubrey Plaza, and Addison Rae, is now slated to premiere on May 1, 2026, according to a recent studio announcement.

Originally scheduled for an October 10, 2025 release, Animal Friends shifted to a May 1, 2026 date before being moved again. The latest adjustment comes as Disney’s The Devil Wears Prada 2 also claimed the May 1, 2026 slot, and Disney’s Avengers: Doomsday moved to a later date in 2026.

Directed by Peter Atencio, Animal Friends follows two fugitive animals – Pony (voiced by Reynolds) and Bear (voiced by Momoa) – as they embark on a cross-country journey to return home. They are pursued by a DEA agent (Aubrey Plaza) and a Fish & Wildlife ranger (Dan Levy). The project, from Legendary, Maximum Effort, and Prime Focus Studios, was initially developed at Sony Pictures before moving to Warner Bros. Pictures.

Reynolds, fresh off his success in Deadpool & Wolverine, and Momoa, who recently starred in A Minecraft Movie, are both in high demand, and the delay allows for scheduling flexibility as they continue to work on other projects. The announcement adds to a busy 2026 release calendar for Warner Bros. Pictures.
