The Vilnius team is currently experiencing a surge in positive momentum. On March 18th, they defeated Galatasaray of Istanbul and advanced to the Top 8 stage of a European tournament, where they will face ERA Nymburk. The series against Nymburk will be a best-of-two format, with the first match scheduled for April 1st in Vilnius.
However, the team is also facing some concerns regarding player health. Jordan Caroline is currently recovering from an ankle injury, Jerrick Harding is sidelined with a finger injury and Martynas Paliukėnas continues to recover following shoulder surgery.
Despite a somewhat depleted roster, the team is approaching upcoming competitions with optimism. Kay Bruhnke embodies this positive outlook. With Caroline’s absence and the lack of a replacement for Jacob Wiley, Bruhnke’s role has turn into increasingly important to the team’s success. He played a season-high 34 minutes in the game against the Turkish club in this FIBA Champions League season.
“I’m trying to bring energy to every game. I’m still finding my role. Step by step, I’m getting more comfortable,” Bruhnke commented.
A significant positive change for the team has been the addition of A. Marčiulionis. Even as he has only played three games with the team, his presence has noticeably improved the team’s overall performance and strategic play.
“He’s a very good floor general. As a guard, he creates a lot of good situations for us. When he’s aggressive, that also benefits us. He’s making big strides, and we’re improving as a team,” Bruhnke said of his teammate.
The team’s next challenge is a match against Panevėžys Lietkabelis on March 22nd. Although they have not yet won against Lietkabelis in the Lithuanian Basketball League (LKL) season, they did secure a victory against them in the King Mindaugas Cup tournament.
“We need to step onto the court with the same mindset as we had in the King Mindaugas Cup. We need to be physical and prepared for that. We need to want the win more and show it. Good things will happen with that attitude,” Bruhnke stated.
