Samsung Discontinues Galaxy Z Trifold & Foldable Phone

Samsung is discontinuing sales of its Galaxy Z TriFold smartphone after a brief run of less than three months, signaling a shift in strategy for the tech giant. The device, which debuted in the U.S. On January 30, 2026, was positioned as a “super-premium device in limited quantities,” according to the company.

The decision to halt sales comes after the phone sold out in Samsung’s home market of South Korea. While the company initially indicated customers in other countries might still be able to purchase the device, availability is now limited to Samsung Experience Stores in the U.S. This move underscores Samsung’s willingness to experiment with innovative form factors, even if they don’t immediately translate into mass-market success.

Priced at $2,899, the Galaxy Z TriFold features a 6.5-inch cover screen and unfolds into a 10-inch main screen thanks to its two hinges. Samsung introduced the phone on December 1, 2025, with an initial release in South Korea on December 12. The limited production run and high price point suggest the TriFold served more as a “flagship showcase” of Samsung’s technological capabilities than a core product aimed at widespread adoption, as reported by the South Korean newspaper Dong-A Ilbo.

Despite the short sales window, the Galaxy Z TriFold generated considerable interest, with units reportedly selling out quickly both online and in select brick-and-mortar stores. Bloomberg reported some customers were able to identify units at Samsung Experience Stores in cities like Frisco, Texas and Queens, New York. As of today, March 19, 2026, seven Samsung Experience Store locations across the country remain the only places to potentially find the device, including locations in Los Cerritos Center and the Americana at Brand in Glendale, California, Bloomington, Minnesota, and Garden City and Elmhurst, New York. Finding a unit is becoming increasingly difficult, however, as Samsung is not expected to restock.

“The Galaxy Z TriFold was introduced as a super-premium device in limited quantities,” Samsung said in a statement. The company’s decision to discontinue sales highlights the challenges of bringing cutting-edge, high-priced foldable technology to the mass market. More information about the Galaxy Z TriFold can be found on Samsung’s website.

The move comes after reports from CNET and other outlets indicated Samsung was winding down sales of the foldable phone.
