Samsung is preparing to launch its first pair of AI-powered smart glasses, dubbed Galaxy Glasses, by the end of 2026, according to recent reports. The move signals growing competition in the wearable technology market.
The South Korean tech giant initially announced its collaboration with a fashion eyewear brand last year to develop the AI-enabled glasses. Samsung plans to release two variants of the glasses, identified as SMO2000P and SMO200J, with subtle feature differences to appeal to a wider range of users.
Meanwhile, Apple is also accelerating development of its own smart glasses, potentially with more advanced technology. SamMobile reports that Apple is distributing prototype units to select employees and aims to complete development by the end of 2026, with a planned launch in 2027.
The Apple glasses, currently codenamed N50, are expected to include speakers, microphones and dual high-quality cameras. One camera will be designed for capturing images and videos, while the other will be dedicated to AI-related tasks. Like many similar devices, the Apple glasses are not anticipated to include a built-in display or onboard visuals.
According to Bloomberg, Apple is prioritizing a luxury design aesthetic for its glasses, testing various frame styles and finishes. This approach positions the glasses as a lightweight, everyday wearable focused on bringing AI into daily life, rather than a bulky mixed-reality headset. The development of these glasses reflects a broader industry trend toward ambient, AI-enabled devices.
Samsung’s smart glasses are designed to integrate seamlessly with the Galaxy ecosystem, and a second generation model with augmented reality (AR) capabilities is planned for release in 2027.
