San Lorenzo is prioritizing the acquisition of a central defender following a season-altering injury to Gastón Hernández, but the club may also be in the market for an attacking reinforcement after Ezequiel Cerutti also suffered a serious injury in the recent match against Boca.
Club officials initially focused on securing a replacement for Hernández, deemed an extremely necessary addition by manager Damián Ayude. Still, they are now open to considering options to bolster the attack and fill the void left by Cerutti, limiting their search to players currently within the domestic league or those who are free agents as of March 10th.
Recently, an offer arrived at the Pedro Bidegain offices that has caught the attention of the club’s leadership. The potential signing is Guido Mainero, the attacking midfielder from Platense.
The 30-year-classic midfielder was a key figure for the Platense squad that won the championship last year and is currently a regular starter for the Calamar team.
Acquiring Mainero won’t be easy, as Platense is reluctant to let him go, especially with a contract that runs through the end of next year. However, negotiations have begun and San Lorenzo will likely prioritize finding a defender first, whereas keeping Mainero firmly in their sights.
