The vaccine is free for the target population, which includes healthcare personnel, individuals over 65 years of age, children from 6 months to 2 years classic, and people with risk factors (with COPD, chronic kidney failure, diabetes, transplant patients and oncological patients or those with chronic diseases).
Flu vaccine doses are now available throughout the province.
An increase in respiratory virus cases and the circulation of the new H3N2 influenza variant in the country prompted an earlier start to the flu vaccination campaign in the province. Doses are now available free of charge at all health centers and hospitals in San Luis for a target population, including healthcare workers and individuals 65 years of age and older, without a doctor’s order.
The vaccination schedule also includes children from 6 months to 2 years old. Individuals with risk factors are also included: those with conditions such as COPD, chronic kidney failure, diabetes, transplant recipients, cancer patients, or those with chronic illnesses. Those with underlying health conditions will necessitate to provide a doctor’s note to verify their condition in order to receive the vaccine.
Officials are particularly urging those over 65 years of age to get vaccinated, noting they do not need a medical indication to receive the dose. This population typically has low vaccination coverage and is more susceptible to severe cases of the flu, which may require hospitalization. Vaccination rates exceed 90% in other at-risk groups.
Individuals residing in nursing homes or other adult care facilities will be vaccinated there by the center’s healthcare staff. For those with limited mobility or disabilities, a family member can visit the nearest health center or hospital to request a nurse build a home visit for vaccination.
The Ministry of Health reported that the province has already received 27% of the doses from the national government and will receive more as the campaign progresses.
The campaign has already reached thousands of residents of San Luis
With a strong response from the community, the operation is underway in hospitals and health centers throughout the territory, and also includes specific actions to bring doses to those with the greatest access difficulties. Healthcare personnel, coordinated by the Immunization Area, took the vaccines to long-term care facilities for the elderly and to the homes of elderly adults with reduced mobility.
As respiratory illnesses continue to circulate, public health officials are emphasizing the importance of vaccination to protect vulnerable populations. The flu vaccine is a critical tool in preventing severe illness and hospitalization, particularly among older adults and those with underlying health conditions.
