In a historic performance that rewrote the record books, Sandis Vilmanis ignited a 6-1 rout of the Hershey Bears on Sunday, April 12, 2026, scoring four goals for the Charlotte Checkers.

The Latvian forward became the first player in the history of the Charlotte Checkers franchise to record a four-goal game, cementing his status as a rising star within the Florida Panthers organization. Playing at Bojangles Coliseum, Vilmanis dominated the contest, netting a goal to open the second period, another to close that frame, and adding two more in a rapid two-minute surge during the third period.

The scoring onslaught began early for Charlotte, with Jack Studnicka finding the back of the net just 28 seconds into the game. Although Hershey managed to cut the lead to 2-1 midway through the second period, the Checkers responded with four unanswered goals to secure the lopsided victory.

Defensively, the Checkers were equally dominant. Veteran goaltender Louis Domingue stopped 20 of 21 shots, limiting Hershey’s opportunities and ensuring the offensive fireworks remained the story of the night.

“Especially in your building and being a pro now in your second year, it’s just amazing to score more goals than one,” Vilmanis told local Charlotte media following the win.

This milestone is part of a whirlwind year for the 22-year-old prospect. After being selected by the Panthers in the fifth round (157th overall) of the 2022 NHL Entry Draft, Vilmanis has seen his trajectory accelerate. In January, he made his NHL debut, appearing in 19 games with Florida and recording three goals and two assists. He further represented Latvia on the global stage during the 2026 Winter Olympics in February.

Charlotte Head Coach Geordie Kinnear praised the forward’s work ethic and trajectory, noting that Vilmanis had previously stepped up during last year’s playoffs and returned from the NHL without missing a beat. “He has a true love for the game, and when someone has a true love for the game and works at it, the sky is the limit,” Kinnear said.

While this marks his first four-goal game in the professional ranks, it is not his first career feat of this magnitude; Vilmanis previously recorded a four-goal performance while playing for the OHL’s North Bay Battalion in 2024.

Having earned the trust of his coaches with high-leverage plays and tough defensive assignments, Vilmanis is now positioned as a strong candidate to compete for a spot on the Florida Panthers’ NHL roster during next season’s training camp.
