Mexico is currently experiencing a significant measles outbreak, with 11,602 confirmed cases and 32 deaths reported as of February 24, 2026, more than a year after the outbreak began. In response, the Secretaría de Salud (SSA) is strongly recommending vaccination as the primary defense for those who are not fully vaccinated. This situation highlights the importance of maintaining up-to-date immunization records and understanding vaccination status.
Health authorities have identified priority groups for measles vaccination, including children, but are also clarifying the requirements for accessing vaccination centers nationwide. The SSA has provided a link to support citizens locate vaccination sites: https://dondemevacuno.salud.gob.mx/.
Unsure if You’ve Been Vaccinated Against Measles?
For individuals between the ages of 10 and 49 who are unsure of their vaccination history, Lapi Laboratorio Médico recommends a “catch-up” schedule. If a person has received at least one dose of the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) or measles and rubella (MR) vaccine, they should receive one dose of the MR vaccine. If there is no record of prior vaccination, two doses of the MR vaccine, spaced four weeks apart, are recommended.

However, medical laboratories advise against vaccination for individuals who are pregnant, have a severe immune deficiency, or have a history of anaphylactic allergy. In these cases, a medical evaluation is recommended before considering vaccination.
Should Everyone Get Vaccinated Against Measles? What the SSA Says
The Secretaría de Salud has affirmed that individuals who are certain they had measles during childhood or adolescence do not demand to be vaccinated. For the rest of the population between 0 and 49 years of age, excluding pregnant individuals, the agency states We find no contraindications and vaccines are available at health centers and vaccination posts.
Who are the Priority Groups for Vaccination?
Measles vaccination is prioritized for the following populations:
- Infants at 12 months, for the first dose of the MMR vaccine.
- Infants at 18 months, for the second dose of the MMR vaccine.
- Children under 6 to 11 months who live in areas with active outbreaks, who receive a “0” dose.
- Children between 2 and 9 years old who are behind on their vaccination schedule.
- Individuals under 49 years of age who do not have a complete vaccination record or do not remember being vaccinated.
- Agricultural workers, migrants, and populations with high mobility, especially in states with higher incidence rates.

The agency also detailed that the best protection against measles for children is the triple viral vaccine, which protects against measles, rubella, and mumps. For adolescents and adults, the recommended vaccine is the double viral vaccine, which covers measles and rubella.
How to Find a Measles Vaccination Site
The Mexican government has created a website where the public can find available measles vaccination locations: https://dondemevacuno.salud.gob.mx/. The site displays a map of Mexico with pins indicating vaccination centers.
Users can hover over or click on the pins to view details such as the number of available centers, specific addresses, service hours, and the types of vaccines offered.

Individuals can also call the vaccine information hotline at 079 for guidance on the nearest health unit to receive vaccines from the Universal Vaccination Program.
Check Vaccination Centers in Mexico City
Residents of Mexico City who wish to receive the measles vaccine or have it administered to priority groups can follow these steps: enter the official website of the Government of Mexico City, enter the borough in which they wish to search for a vaccination site, and select the type of post they want (all, fixed, semi-fixed, or mobile). They can then search by colony or street.

The site will then display detailed information for each location, including the type of post, name of the center, borough, address, hours, and location on Google Maps.

The Mexico City Public Health Secretariat recommends that the public stay informed, as the site is updated regularly.
Users can click the “*This site will be updated constantly. Stay tuned*” legend to refresh the site.

To find available locations throughout Mexico City, users can leave the ranges set to “Todos” to explore each of the capital boroughs.
