Mexico is experiencing a significant surge in measles cases, with 12,556 confirmed infections reported as of March 6, 2026, according to the latest daily report on the measles outbreak in Mexico. This increase highlights the importance of vaccination efforts to control the spread of this highly contagious disease. Chihuahua and Jalisco are currently the states with the highest number of reported cases.
Tragically, the outbreak has also resulted in 34 deaths since the first fatality was recorded on February 28, 2025. Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding each death.
The most affected age group is children between 1 and 4 years old, accounting for 1,698 cases. This underscores the vulnerability of young children who may not have received complete vaccination schedules.
Following closely behind, the 5-9 year old age group has recorded 1,476 cases, while the 25-29 year old demographic has seen 1,456 cases, according to official records from the federal Ministry of Health.
