Latvian rock group Satellites LV is celebrating 30 years with the release of a new single, “Svētdienas svārki” (Sunday Skirts), and a limited-edition CD release.
The band launched the song, along with three additional tracks, both digitally and in a CD single format – a deliberate artistic choice given the rarity of the physical medium today. The CD is limited to a run of just 200 copies.
“This single is like a starting point for our anniversary year – as if these 30 years hadn’t even happened,” the band members said. “It’s like it’s still 1996 outside the window!”
In addition to the title track, the single includes B-sides “Savaldi to,” “Asaras” (the original mix from 2023), and “Tu vari savu ceļu iet” (the original mix from 2024). Satellites LV has released two CD singles previously, and this new release is intended as a nod to the group’s 1990s period.
“Svētdienas svārki” was recorded by Edvards Broders, with guitar parts contributed by Jānis Ruņģis, who recently joined the band’s concert lineup. Mārtiņš Krastiņš, Arnis Račinskis, and Andis Ansons, who mastered the tracks, also contributed to the final result.
The single’s cover features a photograph taken in the late 1960s by Ata Ieviņš, who is celebrating his 80th birthday this year. The image was created using a photo etching technique in a laboratory at the army communications regiment club on Abrenes Street around 1967, according to the photographer.
The release comes as Latvian music continues to gain international attention, and Satellites LV’s anniversary celebration is poised to be a significant event for fans of the band and the broader Baltic music scene.
