SERANG, Banten – Thousands of part-time contract government employees (PPPK) in Serang Regency, Banten province, will receive additional financial incentives on top of their regular pay, a move intended to improve the welfare of educators.

The extra funds, sourced from the School Operational Assistance Fund (BOS), arrive after a policy change allowing BOS funds to be used for incentives for non-civil servant teachers. Previously, regulations prohibited the use of BOS funds for such purposes.

Abidin Nasyar, Head of Elementary School Development at the Serang Regency Education and Culture Office, said the policy is part of a broader effort to support teachers, particularly those with PPPK status. “Here’s a form of concern from the Regent, Ratu Rachmatuzakiyah, for teachers and education personnel,” Nasyar said Thursday, March 12, 2026. “She wants to ensure that educators, especially those who are still PPPK part-time, continue to receive support so they can work with peace of mind.”

The amount of the additional incentive will vary depending on the financial capacity of each school. However, the incentive could reach approximately Rp2,130,000 (approximately $13.50 USD as of March 12, 2026), in addition to existing compensation.

Currently, the Serang Regency government allocates approximately Rp1 million (approximately $63 USD) per month for school operators and around Rp1.2 million (approximately $76 USD) for 3,587 part-time PPPK teachers. The additional incentive is intended to supplement these existing payments.

Nasyar explained that the policy is expected to remain in effect throughout the 2026 fiscal year, with periodic evaluations to assess its effectiveness. “Hopefully, this program can continue,” he said. “If possible, in the future we will encourage this policy to become a more permanent program to support the welfare of teachers in Serang Regency.”

The move underscores the local government’s commitment to supporting its educators and addressing financial concerns within the region’s school system.
