Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala – The Student Federation of India (SFI) has sharply criticized G. Sudhakaran, a Kerala politician, following his decision to contest as an independent candidate in the Ambalappuzha constituency. SFI state president M. Sivaprasad likened Sudhakaran to Judas in a Facebook post on March 12, 2026, escalating the political rhetoric surrounding the upcoming election.
Sivaprasad’s criticism centers on Sudhakaran’s departure from his party and his subsequent decision to run as an independent. The SFI president accused Sudhakaran of betraying the principles he once championed, stating that despite 63 years of party leadership, he seemingly has no support base beyond his own home. The post suggests Sudhakaran succumbed to what it called the “alluring promises” of the Congress party.
The SFI’s statement also took aim at Sudhakaran’s past, claiming he has disavowed both the red flag – a symbol of communist ideology – and the sacrifice of his own brother. According to the SFI, Sudhakaran’s actions represent a rejection of his own history and the working class of Alappuzha.
Meanwhile, Sudhakaran has secured the support of the United Democratic Front (UDF) for his independent bid in Ambalappuzha. Opposition leader V.D. Satheesan reportedly spoke with Sudhakaran regarding the support, and the All India Congress Committee (AICC) has given its approval, according to reports. This move is seen as significant, particularly given Sudhakaran’s stance against corruption.
The SFI’s strong condemnation and the UDF’s backing of Sudhakaran signal a potentially contentious election battle in the Ambalappuzha constituency. The unfolding situation underscores the complex political dynamics at play in Kerala as the election approaches.
