The University of Sharjah and the Sharjah Aviation Training Center for Aviation Sciences have partnered to develop new academic programs and training opportunities for students pursuing careers in the aviation industry.
Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and President of the University of Sharjah, witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the two institutions on Tuesday.
The agreement, signed by Sheikh Khaled bin Essam Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Department of Civil Aviation and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Sharjah Aviation Training Center, and Dr. Essam Din Ajami, Director of the University of Sharjah, aims to integrate the university’s academic expertise with the center’s operational experience.
A key component of the collaboration will be the development of joint academic programs in aviation management, as well as the incorporation of the center’s certified training courses – including the “Aircraft Traffic Control” program – into the university’s curriculum as core courses. This move underscores the growing demand for skilled aviation professionals in the region.
The partnership will also provide students with access to state-of-the-art facilities, including advanced simulation labs and air traffic control simulators at the training center, ensuring a high-precision, industry-standard practical training experience. Opportunities for internships and employment will be created through a direct pipeline to the job market, including priority hiring, joint career fairs, and mentorship programs.
The memorandum also outlines plans for the creation of accredited practical training programs for students at the center’s facilities and Sharjah International Airport. Furthermore, the University of Sharjah and the training center will collaborate on research and innovation initiatives focused on addressing current and future challenges in the aviation sector, with projects planned in areas such as air safety, sustainability, air traffic management, and artificial intelligence applications.
The agreement includes provisions for talent development and support, including scholarships and financial aid from the center for outstanding students. Professional development programs will also be offered to faculty, students, and center staff to promote knowledge exchange and keep pace with the latest technological advancements.
To foster a sustainable network of experts and alumni, the partnership will establish interactive platforms connecting University of Sharjah graduates working in the aviation industry with industry professionals. Regular conferences, seminars, and leadership dialogues will be organized to facilitate ongoing communication and knowledge sharing, supporting continuous professional growth.
