A surprise social media appearance by Egyptian singer Sherine Abdel Wahhab alongside her daughter, Hana, during the first day of Eid al-Fitr has captured attention. In a video shared online, Sherine is seen singing to her daughter, “Aktar wa Aktar,” a song originally featured in a commercial for an Egyptian telecommunications company. The video quickly went viral, sending Sherine’s name trending on Google in Egypt on Saturday.
The unexpected video appearance has dispelled recent rumors surrounding Abdel Wahhab’s health, which had suggested a serious health crisis and reports she was being cared for at the home of another Egyptian artist. The appearance reassured fans that she is doing well, contrary to what had been circulating.
Egyptian art critic Mohamed Abdel Rahman described Sherine Abdel Wahhab as “one of the most important Egyptian stars, with a large fan base and remarkable works that people connect with,” commenting on her trending status following the video.
Abdel Rahman noted that “Sherine always tops search indexes on websites whenever any news about her surfaces, whether positive or negative.”
He added to Al Sharq Al Awsat that “Sherine trending, and attracting attention with her daughter, is due to the fact that the appearance was unexpected and without prior announcement, and she is in solid health after reports of her deteriorating condition.”
He continued: “More important than the social media appearance is Sherine’s return to artistic function, which will be a turning point in her career after years of absence due to her health.”
Abdel Wahhab’s name resurfaced several months ago amid various rumors, including claims of bankruptcy and being denied access to her daughters. However, Sherine’s legal representative, Yasser Kantoush, issued a statement confirming that “legal measures are being taken against some platforms that circulated her name with completely false news.”
Social media users and fans frequently engage with the personal life of Sherine Abdel Wahhab, including details of her relationship with artist Hossam Habib, which has seen multiple separations and reconciliations, along with public disputes and statements from both parties and those close to them in recent years, alongside some professional issues as well.
Last summer, Sherine Abdel Wahhab faced sharp criticism from the Moroccan public on social media following her performance at the 20th edition of the “Mawazine” festival, where she returned after a nine-year absence, and delivered some songs “playback.”
