Mikaela Shiffrin is on the brink of history, taking a significant step toward a record-equalling sixth Overall Crystal Globe with a dominant slalom victory at the Audi FIS World Cup Finals in Hafjell, Norway on Tuesday, March 24, 2026.

Shiffrin’s win, her ninth of the season and the 73rd of her career – both all-time World Cup records – extended her lead over Germany’s Emma Aicher to 85 points. The American skier had faced mounting pressure from Aicher, who had been closing the gap in the season-long standings following strong performances after the Olympic Games. Aicher had reduced Shiffrin’s lead to just 45 points heading into Tuesday’s race.

Despite Aicher’s recent success in multiple disciplines – including fourth in Giant Slalom, second in Slalom, fifth in Downhill, and fourth in Super G – Shiffrin showcased her unparalleled slalom skills, finishing 1.32 seconds ahead of the field. Wendy Holdener of Switzerland finished just four-tenths-of-a-second behind Aicher, securing third place.

Now, Shiffrin needs only to finish in the top 15 in Wednesday’s Giant Slalom, the final race of the women’s season, to claim the Overall World Cup title for the sixth time, matching the legendary Annemarie Moser-Pröll of Austria. This would cement her place among the sport’s all-time greats.

Meanwhile, Switzerland’s Camille Rast secured second place in the Slalom Globe standings. FIS-Ski.com reports that Rast’s performance highlights a strong showing for Swiss skiers at the event.

The race in Ã…re on March 15, 2026, saw Shiffrin lead the first run, with Aicher remaining within striking distance at 0.51 seconds behind, keeping the overall World Cup title fight alive. SkiRacing.com detailed the close competition between the two skiers.

Prior to her stunning slalom win, Shiffrin acknowledged a minor mistake during the giant slalom in Ã…re on March 17, 2026, but remained positive about her performance. According to the Times of India, Shiffrin expressed gratitude for the opportunity to compete in the second run and climb the rankings despite the setback.
