South Korean table tennis star Shin Yubin advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2026 International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) World Cup on Wednesday, April 3rd, setting up a highly anticipated rematch against world No. 3 Chen Xingtong of China.
Competing in Macau, China, the 13th-ranked Shin Yubin defeated Han Ying of Germany, ranked 20th, in straight sets with a score of 4-0 (11-9, 11-9, 11-7, 14-12). This victory propels her into the quarterfinals where she will face Chen Xingtong for a spot in the semifinals.
The upcoming match presents Shin Yubin with an opportunity for revenge, as Chen Xingtong previously defeated her 4-0 in the round of 16 at last year’s tournament. Chen Xingtong, a veteran at 28 years ancient, is the reigning champion of the 2025 WTT Champions Yokohama.
Shin Yubin reached the round of 16 after winning her first two preliminary matches. She then faced Han Ying, a 42-year-old veteran who reached the semifinals of the 2026 WTT Champions Doha tournament. Shin Yubin secured the first two games with identical 11-9 scores, followed by a more comfortable 11-7 win in the third.
The fourth game proved to be a tightly contested affair, going to a deuce, but Shin Yubin ultimately prevailed 14-12 with a powerful forehand attack, sealing her place in the quarterfinals. This win marks a significant step for Shin Yubin in the prestigious tournament, considered one of the three major events in table tennis alongside the Olympics and World Championships.
