Shiro Games has officially unveiled Frostrail, a new co-op first-person shooter survival game developed by FakeFish. Announced during the Triple-I Showcase on April 9, 2026, the title places players in a brutal, frozen wasteland where the primary objective is to survive against constant blizzards and hostile entities.
The gameplay centers on a high-stakes survival loop where players must maintain constant motion using steam-engine trains, which serve as the final lifeline for humanity. To sustain their journey, players will scavenge for supplies by exploring underground ruins, shelters, and abandoned settlements. This exploration is fraught with danger, as the world is haunted by “Revenants”—corrupted remains of the dead that players must fight off to survive.
This release highlights the industry’s ongoing interest in integrating player feedback early in the development cycle to refine complex survival mechanics. According to Ez Jämsen, lead designer at FakeFish, the game is designed to push “both solo players and co-op teams to their limits with a tense and unforgiving survival loop.” Jämsen noted that the team focused on creating a world that feels “both hostile and alive.”
Shiro Games, known for titles such as Dune: Spice Wars, Wartales, and the recently announced Spacecraft, is publishing the title. The company stated that their development process leverages collective experience from previous Early Access projects to ensure the game evolves based on player wishes.
Interested players can sign up for a playtest via the game’s Steam page. The playtest is scheduled to begin on April 16, 2026. Frostrail is currently slated to launch in Early Access on PC later in 2026.
