Shure MV6 Review: Excellent Automated Gaming Microphone

Shure has entered the gaming microphone market with the MV6, a new offering that balances professional build quality with features geared toward streamers, and gamers. Whereas Shure has previously released more affordable products, the MV6 represents a move into a more mainstream segment with a focus on ease of use and sound quality.

The microphone features a matte black finish with neon green accents, and is constructed with materials that convey a premium feel. The MV6 utilizes a cardioid capsule, designed to capture sound from directly in front of the microphone while minimizing background noise. It connects via USB-C, offering plug-and-play functionality without the need for a separate DAC or XLR interface.

Technically, the MV6 supports 16/24-bit resolution between 50 Hz and 15 kHz, with a maximum sound pressure level of 128 dB. Notably, the microphone lacks physical gain control directly on the device itself, requiring users to adjust settings through Shure’s MOTIV Mix application. The included stand also does not offer height adjustability.

Despite these minor drawbacks, the MV6 delivers strong audio performance, aided by Shure’s built-in digital signal processing (DSP). The DSP effectively reduces noise, including sounds from mechanical keyboards. Features like “Auto Level Mode” automatically adjust gain based on voice and ambient noise, while a “Digital Popper Stopper” minimizes plosives (harsh ‘p’, ‘s’, and ‘b’ sounds). This level of automated audio refinement is increasingly common as microphone technology aims to simplify the recording process for casual users.

The MV6 is priced around £130 and offers direct control via integrated buttons and a scroll wheel. Shure positions the microphone as an automated tool for meetings, streaming on platforms like Twitch, or simply improving voice clarity in online communication. The company emphasizes the immediate and noticeable impact of the microphone’s performance upon connection to a computer.

Here’s a trend that reflects the growing demand for high-quality audio solutions in a variety of applications, from content creation to remote work. The MV6 aims to provide a streamlined experience for users who prioritize ease of use and reliable performance.
