Latvian cyclist Toms Skujiņš and his Lidl-Trek team secured a strong second-place finish in the team time trial of the Paris-Nice race on Tuesday, March 10, 2026. The team finished the 23.5-kilometer course in 26 minutes and 42 seconds, just two seconds behind the winning Ineos Grenadiers.

The Lidl-Trek squad, featuring Juan Ayuso, Mattias Skjelmose, Jakob Soderqvist, Julien Bernard, Lennard Kämna, and Søren Kragh Andersen, delivered a stellar performance. This result marks one of the best team time trial showings in Lidl Trek’s history at a major competition. Decathlon CMA CGM completed the podium, finishing 11 seconds behind Ineos Grenadiers.

Skujiņš played a key role for his team in the early stages of the race, which featured two significant climbs, including a 600-meter ascent with a 4.1% average gradient, along with several turns and curves. The team time trial involved 22 teams competing for the top spot.

Despite a crash in the first stage of the race, Skujiņš was able to continue competing. His teammate, Juan Ayuso of Spain, now leads the general classification, holding a two-second advantage over Kevin Vauquelin of Ineos Grenadiers. Another Ineos rider, Oscar Onley, sits in third place, 17 seconds behind Ayuso, while Jonas Vingegaard is seventh, 17 seconds off the pace.

Skujiņš, acting as a support rider for Ayuso in the overall standings, currently holds 115th place with a time of +00:06:54.

In a separate event on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, Skujiņš finished 136th in the fourth stage of Paris-Nice, according to Jauns.lv. The stage covered 195 kilometers and included climbs of the first, second, and third categories, as well as a sprint intermediate finish. Jonas Vingegaard of Visma-Lease a Bike won the stage in 4 hours, 16 minutes, and 12 seconds.

After four stages, Vingegaard leads the general classification, 49 seconds ahead of Daniel Felipe Martinez. Skujiņš is currently 130th, trailing by 41 minutes and 38 seconds. The eight-stage race will conclude on Sunday in Nice.

Meanwhile, on Saturday, August 3, 2024, Skujiņš achieved a fifth-place finish in the group race of the Paris Olympic Games, marking the second-best result in Latvian cycling history, as reported by tv3.lv. The Olympic race covered 272 kilometers with numerous hills.

The result highlights Skujiņš’s continued strong performance on the international stage and solidifies Latvia’s presence in elite cycling competitions.

Elsewhere, Winnipeg Jets forward Mark Scheifele was named the NHL’s star of the week, according to tv3.lv.
