Son Heung-min, 33, has revealed details surrounding his move to LA FC.

Tottenham Hotspur released a documentary titled ‘Son Heung-min and Tottenham, The Final Story’ on their official YouTube channel on December 17th (Korean time).

The approximately 14-minute video features Son Heung-min discussing his transfer, farewells to teammates, and his return to Tottenham after joining LA FC.

Son Heung-min stated he decided to move after winning the UEFA Europa League. Tottenham defeated Manchester United 1-0 in the final on May 24th at San Mamés Stadium in Bilbao, Spain. It was the first trophy of Son Heung-min’s professional career, marking a significant moment for the star forward.

“When we won the trophy, only the people I truly trusted were by my side,” Son Heung-min explained. “I felt I didn’t belong in a comfortable position for much longer and needed a new challenge. I asked for the opinions of people I trust, and they all supported my decision. I told the team my intentions after the final.”

“The timing was perfect. I judged that lifting the trophy in Bilbao was the best time to conclude my career there,” he added.

Son Heung-min admitted that leaving Tottenham was a difficult decision, emphasizing his deep affection for the club. “If I stayed, I thought it wouldn’t be good for the team or for me, so I made that decision. It was tough, but I think it was the right one.”

He also revealed he received offers from several other Premier League and European teams during the transfer period. “There were many options, but I never considered going to another Premier League team. I have so much respect for Tottenham. I didn’t want to play against them in a different uniform. I will only play for Tottenham,” he stated, demonstrating unwavering loyalty.

Son Heung-min leaves behind a legacy as one of Tottenham’s greatest legends. During his ten years with the club, beginning in 2015, he made 454 official appearances, scoring 173 goals and providing 101 assists. This places him first in Tottenham’s all-time assist rankings and fourth in goals scored. He also holds the record for most Premier League appearances, goals, and assists by an Asian player.

Demonstrating remarkable consistency, Son Heung-min recorded double-digit league goals in eight consecutive seasons, excluding his debut and last seasons. The prolific goalscorer also earned the Premier League’s Goal of the Season and the FIFA Puskás Award in the 2019-2020 season for his incredible 70-meter solo effort.

His biggest achievement came in the 2020-2021 season when he became the first Asian player to win the Premier League Golden Boot (23 goals) and share the Golden Shoe. He has also received numerous individual accolades, including the 2019-2020 London Football Awards Player of the Year, the 2021-2022 Eurosport Player of the Year, and the PFA Fans’ Premier League Player of the Month, totaling 15 individual awards.

A trophy had been the only missing piece in Son Heung-min’s illustrious career, but he achieved that goal in May by defeating Manchester United to win the UEFA Europa League title.
