Sonos has expanded its speaker lineup with the release of two recent products: the Sonos Play and the Era 100 SL. The new offerings aim to provide a range of audio experiences for different needs and budgets, continuing Sonos’s position as a leader in the wireless home audio market.
The Sonos Play, priced at $299, is a portable Wi-Fi and Bluetooth speaker positioned between the Roam 2 and the Move 2 in the company’s product range. Measuring 7.6” tall, 4.4” wide, and 3” deep, and weighing less than 3 pounds, it offers increased portability compared to the Move 2. It also boasts an IP67 rating, making it dustproof and capable of being submerged in up to a meter of water for 30 minutes.
Internally, the Play shares similarities with the Era 100, featuring two tweeters angled at 90 degrees for stereo separation and a single midwoofer, along with two passive radiators to enhance bass response. The company has not yet released detailed comparisons of audio quality between the Play and the Era 100.
For those seeking a more streamlined experience, Sonos is also offering the Era 100 SL, priced at $189. This model delivers rich stereo sound and deep bass without built-in voice control. Like the Era 100, the Era 100 SL can be used independently, paired for stereo sound, integrated with a compatible soundbar, or placed in multiple rooms for a whole-home audio system.
Both the Play and the Era 100 SL support Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, as well as Apple AirPlay 2. They also feature touch controls and are ready for use with the Sonos Line-In adapter. Both speakers also include humidity resistance and utilize recycled materials in their construction. The Era 100 and Era 100 SL both utilize Trueplay™ technology, which analyzes a room’s acoustics to optimize sound quality.
The release of these new speakers comes after a period of challenges for Sonos, following issues with a previous app update. These new products signal the company’s continued commitment to innovation and providing consumers with versatile audio solutions.
