Sony is rolling out a firmware update – version 2.0.1 – for its LinkBuds Clip earbuds, bringing with it several features previously unavailable on the model. The update addresses functionality gaps identified in recent reviews, aligning the Clip with features found in other LinkBuds products.
Among the new additions is Auto Switch, enabling seamless audio transition between Sony LinkBuds and 1000X series headphones. The update also introduces “Background Music,” a feature offering three preset sound profiles – Day, Room, and Café – designed to mimic the acoustics of those environments. This feature adjusts frequencies to replicate the sound characteristics of each location. Adaptive Volume Control is now available, dynamically adjusting the earbuds’ volume based on ambient noise levels. Testing on the Barcelona metro and city streets showed the feature responds to changes in sound within approximately one second.
While maximum volume appears to have increased slightly, the Huawei FreeClip 2 still delivers greater overall loudness. Future updates could potentially include Quick Access functionality for YouTube Music, similar to the feature available on the WF-1000XM6, and expanded customization options for the tap controls, allowing users to assign actions like activating a voice assistant with a specific number of taps.
The firmware update is available through the Sony Sound Connect app for Android and iOS devices. During installation, the multipoint connection feature must be disabled.
