South Korea Wins Gold in Women’s Short Track Relay – 8 Years Later

South Korea Strikes Gold in Women’s 3,000m Short Track Relay

The South Korean women’s short track relay team captured gold in the 3,000m event at the 2026 Milan-Cortina d’Ampezzo Winter Olympics on February 18th, marking their first victory in the event in eight years. The team finished with a time of 4:04.014, securing the top spot on the podium.

The winning team consisted of Choi Min-jeong, Kim Gilli, Noh Do-hee, and Shim Suk-hee. This victory is South Korea’s seventh gold medal in the 10 finals held since the event became a permanent fixture on the Olympic program.

President Lee Jae-myung congratulated the team on Facebook, stating, “I extend my deep congratulations to our team for winning the glorious gold medal in the women’s 3000m relay at the 2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics.” He further emphasized the importance of teamwork in short track, noting that “the short track relay is a team sport where trust in each other determines the outcome.”

President Lee also highlighted the team’s skill and dedication, saying, “Each player – Choi Min-jeong, Kim Gilli, Noh Do-hee, and Shim Suk-hee – demonstrated outstanding individual ability, combined with teamwork honed over a long period of time, proudly demonstrating the competitiveness of South Korean short track to the world.”

The win solidifies South Korea’s reputation as a dominant force in short track speed skating. This gold medal performance underscores the nation’s continued success in the sport and sets a high bar for future competitions.
