Splinter Cell Double Agent: Fan Fix Revives Troubled PC Port

Ubisoft is supporting a fan-made fix for Splinter Cell: Double Agent, addressing longstanding technical issues that have plagued the PC version of the 2006 stealth action game. The update, released on February 19, 2026, brings widescreen support, improved mouse and controller functionality and graphical enhancements to the title.

The move comes as Ubisoft continues development on the Splinter Cell remake, first announced in December 2021, despite recent layoffs at Ubisoft Toronto. The company confirmed the remake remains in development, and seemingly won’t face the same fate as the cancelled Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake, according to reports from TheGamer.

For years, the PC version of Splinter Cell: Double Agent has been criticized for its technical shortcomings, earning a “Mostly Negative” rating on Steam. Players have reported issues with ultrawide monitor compatibility, bugs, and frequent crashes. The “Splinter Cell Double Agent Widescreen Fix” project aims to resolve these problems, allowing modern hardware owners to experience the game as intended.

The February 19th update implements a widescreen HUD option, adds raw input support for mouse control, and increases the resolution of shadows and bloom effects. Users can also limit the frame rate to avoid game-breaking bugs and customize the iconic night vision color palette. The fix demonstrates the power of community-driven solutions in preserving and enhancing classic games.

The support for this fan-made fix comes after Ubisoft underwent a major restructuring in January 2026, cancelling six major projects, including the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake, and delaying seven others, as reported by GamingBible. Ubisoft Toronto also experienced layoffs, with 40 developers losing their jobs as part of the cost-savings plan, according to MobileSyrup. Despite these challenges, Ubisoft has affirmed its commitment to the Splinter Cell remake.
