Stefan Raab’s new show premiered in prime time with Barbara Schöneberger.Bild: rtl
RTL attempted a relaunch of its primetime programming on Saturday evening. However, while Stefan Raab’s guest appearance on “Let’s Dance” on Friday didn’t land well with viewers, it appears the audience isn’t embracing his new show with Barbara Schöneberger either.

“Wer weiss wie wann was war?” – a show title that doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue. Despite this, a significant number of people tuned in to watch the new program from entertainer Stefan Raab, which he billed as “innovative.”
The show’s premise is straightforward. The studio audience is divided into three generations – 20 to 39 years old, 40 to 59 years old, and over 60 years old.
Contestants compete in groups across various quiz categories covering pop culture, TV, music, and current events. Each generation has a celebrity mentor, and the winning group will split a prize of 100,000 euros.
Barbara Schöneberger co-hosts alongside Stefan Raab. However, a quick gaze at X reveals that even she couldn’t salvage the show’s reception: “Wer weiss wie wann was war” is falling flat with audiences.
“Wer weiss wie wann was war?”: RTL’s New Stefan Raab Venture
Stefan Raab’s latest show experiment launched in primetime on March 14th. He had already promoted the new program during a guest appearance on the second live show of “Let’s Dance” on Friday evening.
Here’s understandable, considering the entertainer hasn’t been a ratings powerhouse for RTL lately. Following a brief success with the “Jungle Camp” special “Die halbe Stunde nach der Stunde danach,” RTL decided to move Raab to late night. However, the show soon hit an all-time low even in its new timeslot.
“Wer weiss wie wann was war? Die Show der Generationen” was intended to boost ratings and generate a more positive response from viewers. Unfortunately, the opposite has happened.
Audience Heavily Criticizes Stefan Raab’s New Show
Viewers were – to put it mildly – unimpressed with the TV premiere of Raab’s new show. A clear consensus is emerging from numerous social media posts, with one X user succinctly stating: “I think Raab’s time on TV is over.”
Another user agreed: “Raab unfortunately doesn’t realize that he’s long past his prime and his embarrassing 90s old-man humor just feels out of touch.”
Others congratulated ProSieben for “swiping left” on the “chance for a Raab comeback” – a reference to the dating app Tinder. The host previously concluded his run with the network in 2015, remaining as a producer in the background until September 2024, when RTL recruited him.
“Wer weiss wie wann was war”: The Problem Isn’t Just Raab
Social media criticism isn’t directed solely at Raab, but at the show itself. One viewer wrote that the program had “zero concept” and complained that the singing segments, which are part of a quiz show, were more reminiscent of “Fernsehgarten” or “Chartshow.” Others simply described “Wer weiss wie wann was war” as a “fever dream.”
And one comment wondered at the TV premiere: “I’m already curious to see when it gets cancelled again.” This statement isn’t far off the mark.
Since his comeback in September 2024, Raab has repeatedly tried to prove himself through various TV formats – and RTL has followed suit. “Du gewinnst hier nicht die Million bei Stefan Raab,” the first program after the entertainer’s return, was discontinued after less than a year on air.
The reason: poor ratings, scathing reviews. It sounds like déjà vu when considering the initial reactions to “Wer weiss wie wann was war.”
The 40-to-59 age group won the inaugural show and claimed the promised prize money of 100,000 euros.
“Wer weiss wie wann was war? Die Show der Generationen” isn’t the only program Raab currently has in the pipeline. The entertainer will continue to dominate Saturday evenings on RTL – including alongside Michael “Bully” Herbig in the show “Stefan & Bully gegen irgendson Schnulli.” The next episode airs on March 28th.
