Widzew Łódź is on the verge of completing a deal for Steve Kapuadi, with the player set to move from Legia Warsaw. The transfer signifies a significant investment in reinforcements by Widzew owner Robert Dobrzycki, potentially marking the fourth time this season the club has spent over three million euros on a single player.

The transfer of Kapuadi is poised to become a record-breaking deal within the Polish Ekstraklasa. Previously, the most expensive transfer between two league clubs was Tomasz Pieńek’s move from Zagłębie Lubin to Raków Częstochowa, costing just under two million euros. Widzew’s acquisition of the Legia defender is expected to surpass that figure considerably.

Legia Set to Profit from Kapuadi Transfer. “Hopefully He Sabotages Widzew”

Kapuadi was reportedly close to a move to Italian side Cremonese just weeks ago. However, according to Weszło, the transfer was blocked by Marek Papszun. Now, the situation has dramatically changed, with the Democratic Republic of Congo international set to depart Łazienkowska 3.

The record-breaking transfer between two teams in the relegation zone has sparked debate among fans of both Legia and Widzew. Legia supporters generally expressed satisfaction, as Kapuadi’s recent performances had been underwhelming. Discussions also centered on Robert Dobrzycki’s team-building strategy and potential moves by Legia.

“This is a ticking time bomb, which was visible throughout the entire autumn,” “Hopefully he sabotages Widzew,” “A weak player, but selling to a rival you’re fighting to stay ahead of?”, “Kapuadi has experience in the first league, so it’s an excellent move,” “Due to financial problems, we won’t be bringing in any defenders as a result of this,” “Kapuadi caused Wisła Płock problems, he’ll do the same to Widzew,” “Widzew is so foolish with its decisions. They’ll be left with these huge contracts for years” – these are just some of the comments from Warsaw fans.

Widzew Fans Divided. “If He’s in Form…”

Opinions in Łódź are split. Some believe the transfer is excellent, as Widzew will acquire a left-footed defender who was highly sought after by clubs in Serie A. Others point out that a defender wasn’t a priority and Kapuadi’s form – like many Legia players – has been inconsistent.

“Kapuadi is the best left-footed center-back in this league,” “If he’s in the form he was during Feio’s time, it’s a brilliant transfer. If not… we’re burning money,” “Why do we need another defender without form? We need a striker immediately! Relegation is close; Who wants to save Legia’s finances and destroy Widzew? This is some kind of sabotage” – the mood among Widzew fans is varied.

Zbigniew Boniek also commented on the transfer. The former president of the Polish Football Association, and a former Widzew player himself, expressed disbelief at the reported transfer fee. – “I don’t suppose that’s the real amount. This is just shooting from the hip, which has happened many times before. (…) I am surprised by Legia’s decision. I didn’t believe that Legia could give a player to Widzew at such a ‘warm’ moment” – he said, clearly surprised by the media reports.

According to reports, the transfer of Kapuadi is nearing completion, with the Congolese player scheduled to undergo a medical examination on Tuesday, February 24th. The recent defender could make his debut for Ivan Jovićević’s team on Saturday, as Widzew travels to face Pogoń Szczecin.
