A tough day on the course for Stina Nilsson, 32.

The Swede finished twelfth in the Marcialonga Bodø long-distance race, nine minutes off the lead.

It was a day to forget for Stina Nilsson in the Ski Classics event in Northern Norway. The cross-country skier fell well behind the leaders, trailing by over a minute after 15 kilometers.

At the finish – after 46 kilometers – Nilsson came in twelfth, nine minutes behind Norwegian winner Anikken Gjerde Alnæs. Hanna Lodin and Louise Lindström fared much better, finishing second and third respectively after a sprint finish for the top spot.

Myhlback Misses Podium

Nineteen-year-old Alvar Myhlback had a difficult build-up to today’s race, battling illness during the week. The promising talent did start, ultimately finishing fourth, just two seconds off the podium. Max Novak was the best Swedish skier, taking third place as Torleif Syrstad of Norway won convincingly.

The race was originally scheduled to accept place in the football-mad town of Bodø, but was moved 40 kilometers inland to Valnesfjord due to a lack of snow. Nilsson won the event last year.

The Ski Classics long-distance cup concludes next weekend.
