Whether triggered by a startling event, strenuous exercise, or seemingly out of nowhere, a noticeably strong heartbeat is a common experience. While not every rapid or forceful heartbeat signals a problem, understanding when to seek medical attention is crucial for maintaining cardiovascular health.
In this installment of the “Herz-Doc” series, cardiologist and board member of the German Heart Foundation, Prof. Dr. Christiane Tiefenbacher, explains the common causes of a strong heartbeat and clarifies when a medical evaluation is necessary. “A strong heartbeat can be completely harmless – for example, during stress or excitement,” she notes. “However, it’s important to pay attention to any accompanying symptoms to rule out underlying organic causes.”
