First Sermon

Respected Friday worshippers,

Let us increase our devotion to God Almighty by obeying all His commands and avoiding all His prohibitions. Know that piety is the best provision for the hereafter.

May peace and blessings be upon the Prophet Muhammad, his family, his companions, and all his followers until the end of time.

Esteemed congregation,

In recent days, we have been shocked by a major disaster that has struck our brothers and sisters in Sumatra. Hundreds have died, hundreds more remain missing, and thousands are injured. Homes have been destroyed, public facilities damaged, and many families have lost their homes and loved ones. This is a test from God that we must contemplate.

God Almighty says in QS. Al-Baqarah verse 155:

Meaning: “And We will surely test you with something of fear, hunger, loss of wealth, lives, and fruits. And give good tidings to the patient,” (QS. Al-Baqarah: 155)

Disaster is not a sign of God’s displeasure with His servants, but a test to bring us closer to Him. God wants to see the extent of our patience, our sincerity, and our empathy for those afflicted by disaster.
