Sweden’s Eurovision Song Contest 2024: Felicia Eriksson Wins with ‘My System’

Sweden has chosen its representative for the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest: Felicia Eriksson, formerly known as Fröken Snusk, will perform “My System” in Vienna this May. Eriksson emerged victorious from Melodifestivalen on Saturday, beating out A-Teens, Greczula and Meira Omar, among others.

The win comes despite Eriksson battling illness leading up to the final performance. According to Expressen, she was feeling unwell and had a fever during Friday’s general rehearsal, forcing her to skip the press conference. Her condition hadn’t improved by Saturday.

“I sense worse than yesterday,” Eriksson said before the final, as reported by Expressen. She explained to news agency TT that she was trying to conserve her voice by speaking as little as possible, drinking warm water, using a steam machine, and resting.

Eriksson secured a total of 71 points from the international jury and 90 points from the public vote. When asked by host Gina Dirawi how she planned to celebrate her win, Eriksson responded, “Drink so jævlig much alcohol!”

The song “My System” was co-written by Norwegian artist Julie Bergan, along with Audun Agnar, Emily Harbakk, Theresa Rex, and Eriksson herself. Bergan previously explained that the song was written with a group of collaborators on Iceland during her “Eurodance-era” in 2024. TV 2 reports she called it “incredible” that the song landed with Felicia, who she believes is the perfect artist for it.

“The stage show is absolutely amazing. Felicia sings incredibly well, she has a group of wild dancers with her, and it’s impossible not to receive goosebumps when the drop comes and the lasers go off,” Bergan added.

Norwegian artists have a history of performing under the Swedish flag at Eurovision. In 2024, Norwegian duo Marcus and Martinus represented Sweden in the competition, and ABBA’s Anni-Frid Lyngstad, who is partially Norwegian, sang “Waterloo” for Sweden in 1974.

“My System” has already garnered over six million streams on Spotify in just a few weeks. The selection of Eriksson and her track adds to a growing trend of Eurovision contenders embracing energetic, dance-focused performances.
