The Swiss curling team has stormed through the World Championship in Canada, earning their 10th consecutive win against Italy, 6-4. Their only loss in eleven matches came against Japan (3-6), but this dominant run secures their place in the semifinals for the first time in the tournament.
Selina Rychiger, Fabienne Rieder, Selina Gafner and Skip Xenia Schwaller delivered another controlled and confident performance. Italy was unable to score more than one point in any end, whereas Switzerland capitalized with a two-point haul in the 4th end.
Schwaller Delivers Twice with the Two-Point Play
This gave them a 4-3 lead and the hammer – last stone advantage – heading into the 9th end. Schwaller then expertly used her final stone to score another two points, extending the lead to 6-3.
Italy, skipped by Stefania Constantini, refused to concede despite the growing deficit. However, the Swiss team remained resolute in the 10th end, securing a well-deserved victory.
The semifinal featuring Switzerland will take place on Saturday at 11:00 PM EST (live on SRF). Their opponent is yet to be determined.
