Switzerland Eyes Medal Boost on Thursday

Switzerland has several opportunities to add to its medal count on Thursday, February 19, 2026, as the women’s ice hockey team battles for bronze and freestyle skiers compete in aerials. The nation similarly has strong contenders in ski alpinism and curling.

The Swiss women’s ice hockey team will face Sweden in the bronze medal game, twelve years after their impressive showing at the 2014 Sochi Olympics. Goaltender Andrea Brändli has been a key player for the Swiss team throughout the tournament and could prove decisive in securing another Olympic bronze.

The matchup is expected to be closely contested. While Switzerland position up a strong fight against Canada in the semi-final, falling 2-1, they may have expended significant energy in the process. Colin Muller’s squad can draw confidence from their recent record, having won their last three games against Sweden.

In freestyle skiing, the aerials competition begins, preceding the mixed team event scheduled for Saturday. World champion Noé Roth and teammate Pirmin Werner are considered top contenders for a podium finish, though the Chinese team is favored. Qualification begins at 11:00 AM, with the final at 2:00 PM local time.

The debut of ski alpinism at the Olympics also presents medal opportunities for the Swiss team. Marianne Fatton and Caroline Ulrich will compete in the women’s sprint, while Jon Kistler and Arno Lietha will race in the men’s event. Finals are set to commence at 1:55 PM.

Curling Team Poised for Semifinal

A medal is within reach for Switzerland in men’s curling. Benoît Schwarz-van Berkel’s CC3C Genève team, impressive throughout the Round Robin stage, will compete in the semi-finals at 7:05 PM, facing an opponent to be determined after the conclusion of the preliminary round at 9:05 AM. This strong performance in the Round Robin has positioned them well for a potential medal run.
