Mokka host Szabó Zsófi brought a family heirloom to Saturday night’s episode of Kincsvadászok VIP, hoping to turn a sentimental piece into cash. The television personality presented a decorative serving dish, passed down from her late actor father, Szabó Gyula.
The dish, a gift to Szabó Gyula decades ago from a friend, was believed by the family to be made of silver. Zsófi and her mother, Pálma, a devoted fan of the show, anticipated it could fetch several hundred forints. However, their hopes were quickly dashed. Expert Megyesi Balázs immediately suspected the dish wasn’t solid silver, and confirmed it was merely silver-plated, despite a certificate of authenticity. Szabó Zsófi, understandably surprised, still presented the item to the panel of dealers: Dr. Katona Szandra, Fertőszögi Péter, Molnár Viktor, Nagyházi Lőrinc and Fejes Tamás.
The dealers quickly confirmed the weight of the dish didn’t align with genuine silver. It was as well noted that the item wouldn’t be eligible for commercial sale in its current condition. Only Fejes Tamás, drummer for the band Tankcsapda, made an offer, bidding 50,000 forints.
Szabó Zsófi quickly consulted with her mother, but ultimately decided not to sell the family treasure. Fejes Tamás later revealed he would have been willing to pay as much as 100,000 forints – not for the material value, but because of its connection to Szabó Gyula. The musician shared that he had always admired the actor and had the pleasure of meeting him personally.
The story took a heartwarming turn when Szabó Zsófi, touched by Fejes’s gesture, invited him to her father’s former home. She offered him the opportunity to choose an item from the actor’s estate to maintain as a gift. Szabó Gyula had amassed a collection of unique objects throughout his life, all of which the family continues to cherish.
